Bay Sands

Commissioned sculpture and painting for the most private rooms in one of the world's most photographed hotels, drawn from the water it stands on.

Fifty-five floors above Marina Bay, the Paiza Collection is where Marina Bay Sands keeps its quietest rooms, reached by private lift and tended by a dedicated butler team. When the suites were remade as part of a billion-dollar reinvestment, the art had to hold its own in rooms finished in marble marquetry, hand-embroidered wallpaper, and gold, and it had to feel like it belonged to this bay and no other.

The program answered with the water. Working with the resort's in-house design team, we commissioned sculpture and painting from artists across Singapore and Southeast Asia, each piece taking its cue from the sea the towers rise out of: a white sculpture that folds like a swell about to break, canvases washed in the blues and golds of the bay at different hours, and pieces sized to the scale of the rooms.

Michelle led this art program during her tenure at Sweeney Co. Art Advisors, from concept through installation.
